I have the wonderful opportunity to meet all kinds of entrepreneurs and pros in all kinds of fields. I have had the pleasure of photographing Rommel Maqeura with Calima Insurance, and learned just how important having a GREAT insurance agent is. When we moved to Orlando, Florida, we knew literally nobody! We didn’t know where to turn to find the most reliable companies for simple things like pool services, lawn care, and also more important things like home and life insurance.
It was such a joy to meet and photograph Rommel - this headshot photo shoot came with valuable education everyone should have, and I would recommend anyone to him who isn’t sure what insurance they should have to protect themselves from disaster. Like many people here in Florida, I grew up somewhere else. Grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and was born in Colombia. Moved 18 years ago to Orlando, Florida, to be with family, the nice weather and people. I am an Electrical Engineer and worked in the high tech industry for 10 years where I learned a lot about sales, business, marketing and got to travel to Asia, Europe and all over US.
After moving to Florida I took some time off to figure out what I wanted to do, before looking to work for another high tech company. In the process, realized how much I had taken for granted the insurance benefits I had while employed in Corporate; the misbelief of invincible youth . None of my benefits were portable to Florida and I was completely uninsured. In the process of looking for work, came across multiple opportunities to start my own business. So, searched to buy my own insurance benefits: Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Supplemental Insurance. Discovered there are multiple options, how complicated it is and the cost difference when an employer offers it.
Long story short, after talking with multiple insurance recruiters at career fairs, and finding out how frustrating selecting insurance plans can be, I decided to get my insurance license and assist people. Plus I speak Spanish and help those that prefer their native language for these types of products. I figured out how to decipher insurance benefits, and translate them into layman terms to select plans that meet clients needs. That way, my clients understand what they have, know what they are buying and when they forget or need assistance, they can simply reach out to me.
My goal is to help the unprepared plan for the unexpected. That has been my goal for the past 16 years and continue help those that are confused about insurance, specially Medicare, have a personal or business need for Life Insurance, Health Insurance, Supplemental Insurance or employers looking to retain or attract talent by offering benefits access. As a broker, I have options with multiple carriers in different product lines to be able to match client’s needs. Nearly all of my business comes from referrals and I offer free consultation.
